< b4l4nc3r request number 17 >
When I open a chapter in Explorer, in which I've a better overview over my chapters and plan on using PersonalBrain (www.thebrain.com) to arrange them in PB thought folders to make a massive library of chapters, then they open a new RecallPlus instance!
I want an option to change this behavior so that when I open a chapter in explorer then that chapter should be added to the exiting in memory instance layout IF it's not already in the "Knowledge Tree"! |

Do you want a preferences option, where if another instance of RP is open, that it passes the information to that one, instead of opening a new instance?
OR
do you want us to work out what it is that you need with organising your chapters?

Sorry for my late reply. I wrote this a while ago in OneNote but didn't post, because I wanted to use this opportunity to introduce another difficulty I was having for a along time with RecallPlus. I needed to reserve sometime for the simple conformation/demonstration before posting. But to start, I'll reply to this thread.
I want the first one:
Do you want a preferences option, where if another instance of RP is open, that it passes the information to that one, instead of opening a new instance?
And I appreciate your thoughts and offer regarding the second one, but it would be very difficult and would be like trying to reinvent the wheel ( http://www.thebrain.com ) from my point of view. The idea of using PersonalBrain to arrange files/chapters is to replace the classic folder hierarchy and instead have the freedom provided by PersonalBrain to arrange thoughts and therewith the connected folders (activated/uniquely generated from the thought context menu) and content without changing the paths or folder names on the file system! This ensures maximum comfort in the form of efficiency and effectiveness by not getting stuck in legacy thought patterns on which the old hierarchy was based which were the precedent and needed for the new thought patterns to emerge or be justifiable!
One of the added features on top of that freedom is being able not only setting vertical relationships (parent/child files/folders/chapters/etc..) in terms of organizing the chapters in a domain specific logical overview, but also horizontal relationships! And even setting notes to describe the chapters before choosing to open them! And assigning tags to create specific instantly recallable chapter groupings which will never have to brake, because I don't use the file system hierarchy to organize any more! And another exquisite feature is the Extended View! It's like a 2d overview created in a chapter, but each idea/thought move dynamically upon activation and has content on the file-system associated with each idea/thought! It's really beyond words!
And much more, all in such an integrated way which just takes my breath away! I can for example add Connected Outlook Contacts to thoughts and link these thoughts to the thoughts of the chapters creating logical overviews which reflect my thinking empowering me to recall the overviews I've in my mind and communicate it with others!
Many aspects may sound like those of RecallPlus, but if the case then that's just it "it just sounds like it" but it's actually pretty far from it. RecallPlus is just not designed for the same purposes as PersonalBrain.
PB Even has the possibility to export to fully functional HTML overview which is viewable via a browser without additional plug-in (javascripts are used for the dynamics) thus online too without the startup obstacle! So one can navigate my brain and find the chapters I've shared through the connections I've made between the thoughts! And IT CAN BE EXTENDED to an enterprise level server version, thus scalable full feature set! A server license may cost 25000 dollars with expensive per user licenses on top of that (these information I got in an reply to my e-mail), BUT I know I CAN! Money can be arranged when needed, but fully developed solutions has to be ready to be deployed when the time is right! And that can't be willed in such a short time comparing to the amount of development miles PB already has crossed for it's particular purpose I may add for correctness!
You could use some of the concepts they have used to enhance RecallPlus (which I support), but it just won't catch-up on that front, just to be clear, because of the different purposes. Except, of course and like you know, if you somehow got an incredible user base or business plan, or in short a capital and future vision, supporting the idea! Which in the end for me would be: PersonalBrain + RecallPlus + OneNote 2007 OR whichever entity which can gather the feature set I'm after in one package easy to migrate to! But the latter, is just too unlikely for obvious reasons. I've mentioned OneNote 2007 before, which is another story but the short version is it's great for flow-less note taking with built-in OCR used on every images and much much more with the most useful Outlook integration I've yet to encounter in another!
If you haven't tried PersonalBrain ( http://www.thebrain.com ) , I strongly advice you to install it and revisit it from time to time. Like RecallPlus, they have a very well usable lifelong free version! I don't think you would be wasting your time as I've stated for example in my signature. It complements RecallPlus, because it tries to replace Windows Explorer and other MindMapping software, which isn't RecallPluse's actual territory. I think in the end you, as an already successful thinker, will really appreciate it's elegance as well. Like RecallPlus, but differently.
I hope I've given you a good idea about my insight leading me to use the combination I've mentioned above. And I hope it will be useful to you on some level. I felt like sharing, because I thought you might find it useful.
So instead of rivaling PersonalBrain (intentionally or unintentionally) on their home-turf (unbeatable!), I suggest to focus on this issue : http://www.evolutioncode.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=4075#4075 .
p.s. thanks for your vote (I assume, as the timing suggested it) on this thread

There will be an option to open > 1 version of RP... otherwise the standard functionality will be to send newly clicked on files to the same instance of RP.
The delay was finding the most efficient way to do it.
This is now complete.
This functionality is being written as we speak.
You can expect release within a week.
